IntroductionWhen 3D television was first introduced, the public was captivated by the technology. When we consumers look at current technology, we view 3D television as a failure. As the newest technology, ultra high definition television, makes its way to the market, in this article I will analyze 3D television technology in the use of social constructions of technology and compare it with the new ultra high definition television. The analysis document will be primarily useful to companies developing the televisions and to selected consumers who are innovators (consumers who will adopt the technology first). This analysis document is important so that companies do not make the same mistake by turning ultra-high definition television into a failed technology that consumers will not buy. For innovators, this will help them understand the pros and cons before making a decision whether or not to support the technology. 3D technology has been known since the 1830s, when the stereoscope was invented by David Brewster (Velu, 2010). By the mid-1850s, cameras could capture 3D (Velu, 2010). 3D movies existed in the 1950s, but we didn't really start seeing the technology until the 1970s and 1980s. It was around this time that 3D movies such as "Jaws 3D" and Friday the 13th (part III)” are out. (Vélu, 2010). 3D viewing was mainly done in movie theaters until 2010 when 3D compatible TVs were released, but today we don't see 3D TV being sold as much anymore due to low demand. Our market is now starting to focus on 4K TV. A TV with a 4K screen has the ability to display programs with a horizontal pixel density of 4,000 pixels.
