I once heard a professor say that the greatest thing a pastor can give to his church is to love his wife, I I've thought about it a lot and I agree. Jesus told us to love God and, secondly, to love our neighbor. Who would be considered our biggest neighbor? I believe it would be your spouse, there is no better neighbor than your spouse. This means that the second greatest thing to do in life is to love your spouse. God first, then the spouse second. This is our greatest ministry here on earth, our marriage. Love God, then our spouses, then our children as the next “neighbor” closest to ourselves. After our children, third place goes to our distant relatives and/or close friends, after which those who are our neighbors become diminished, but we are all still called to love all people as our “neighbors.” To me it's like concentric circles around our lives, those closest to the circle are bigger "neighbors". It's just common sense. Jesus spent the most time caring for or loving those closest to him. Even among the twelve, he had an inner circle of three people whom Jesus clearly served more. We are called to love those close to us and it unfolds like the life of Jesus. In her life, when someone burst into her circle and caught her attention, responded to her, cared for her, loved her and cared for her, we are called to be the same. Love God and love our
