  • Essay / History of Theater Stages - 1150

Throughout the history of theaters and stages, many things have changed. However, the theater structures are similar. Components from the early stages are still used today. A theater consists of stages, actors, crews and lighting. When theaters first said they weren't very popular. The authoritarians did not approve of them; in 1574 it was forbidden to have theaters within the city limits. Many people said it was bad for young people and led to prostitution. Queen Elizabeth I loved the art of theater and enjoyed watching shows. It helped theaters become popular in cities and among citizens. The Shakespeare Theater was full of life and different from today. During performances, people didn't just sit and watch; people were talking, eating and drinking. They applauded the parts they liked and booed the parts they didn't like. The audience even sometimes threw objects at the actors. The basic scene type is a “Proscenium” scene, which means that it is a frame that demarcates the right and left of the scene. When determining scene right from scene left from the audience's perspective, it is opposite because it is determined by the actor's perspective. When different scenes are on stage, there are three sides to place them on, except for the side facing the audience. The backstage is the area where the audience cannot see (the part behind the curtains). When an actor comes off stage, they walk toward the audience and the top of the stage moves away from the audience. On any stage, there is the center line (CL) which is the center of the stage. There is also the living cast (PL) which extends from the back of the proscenium to the front where the (CL) and the (PL) intersect. This is called the “zero-zero” line. The front of house is...... middle of paper...... Elizabeth I, theaters became beloved all over the world and by audiences around the world.
