Essay / Looking For Love...Online - 1262
Today we have the possibility to carry out a multitude of tasks online; A computer is used in almost every school, home, and business in America. It's not so futuristic to think that people would also find ways to improve their personal lives online. Online dating began in the 1970s and carried a stigma that only desperate people used the web to look for love; However, today this stigma has disappeared and online dating is a largely excluded practice. Internet dating is simple. A person gets to know another person through the process of email; the two people then explore their compatibility by discovering each other's likes and dislikes, before meeting face to face. Getting started with online dating is relatively quick and painless. According to King, Oden and Lohr, we create a “personality profile” (49). In addition, the authors explain, the created profile is then “used to maximize the chances of compatibility. . Matches are presented to the user who can then follow up by emailing something like "Hey, I like your profile." If there is mutual interest, the two men can then discuss topics of interest, which can eventually lead to intimate personal contact” (49). Although traditional dating is often time-consuming for both people, online dating is however more convenient, very efficient, as well as a cost-effective, fun and safe way to meet other singles. The convenience of online dating has become a very attractive way to find a romantic relationship, in today's busy world. Today, our lives are so punctuated by demanding jobs, errands and social obligations that the hours of the day fade away. In addition, many people have lost the ability and time to...... middle of paper...... important appointments. In addition to saving the dater from potentially devastating and unsuitable matches for the dater, online dating thus eliminates some of the unwanted matches found in traditional dating.Works CitedBiever, Celeste. “Modern romance.” New Scientist 190.2549 (2006): 2.
