    The reason this was the golden age of celebration was because the Renaissance was trying to forget the devastating times of medieval Italy. Marriages in the Renaissance were more of a social contract between the two families marrying each other more than anything else. At marriages, the civil officer or judge would be in authority and not a priest. Furthermore, the poor often tried to imitate (equal) the richer at weddings. The everyday food concepts of this era were the building blocks of our modern food concepts. They had introduced new ingredients from around the world like potatoes and peppers. They were also the creators of the modern fork. The intelligent rich began eating every meal from wooden plates. Even though the fork was a great invention, it was hated by the Church. Jousting during the Renaissance became very popular over time. Joust in its basic term means “to approach or meet”. In the joust, there are two riders clad in armor who charge at each other with a blunt-tipped sword and attempt to knock each other off the horse.
