    1.0 Pointing Devices Discussion The PCMAG(nd) website stated that pointing devices are input devices used to move cursors or pointers on screens and the mouse is a major pointing device for desktop computers. and for laptops, touchpads are the primary pointing devices. All of us who come into contact with modern technological devices will touch these pointing devices in one way or another; for example, when we use a desktop computer, we will definitely use the mouse to point at icons. Smith (2013) wrote that there are a range of pointing devices used to move computer cursors and they are: a mouse, with a ball attached to the bottom to act as a roller for the mouse to operate; trackball, a device similar to the mouse but the user only uses the ball which is usually located at the top or side of the device, so there is no need to move the device entirely like a mouse; the touchpad, a pad sensitive to the user's movement to control the cursor, the user needs to slide their finger across the device and the cursor will follow the movement of the user's finger, this device is generally designed for portable computers; on gaming devices, cursor positions are controlled by arrow buttons or a joystick; light or stylus, this device works like a mouse when moving or clicking on icons by touching or rather clicking on the screen, used in personal digital assistants (PDAs), smartphones and tablets, this device pointing can be a writing tool upon contact with the screen; touch screen, used on modern smartphones, tablets, gas stations and ATMs and the selection is made by touching the icons on the screen.
