  • Essay / The events that led to the September 11 crisis in the United States

The extent to which the war in Iraq is necessaryIt is difficult to forget the events that took place on September 11, 2001, and which deeply shook the United States. . Since September 11, the United States has targeted the only person who orchestrated and financed the terrorist attack, Osama bin Laden. The United States also wanted to capture Saddam Hussein, the Iraqi dictator who was also partially responsible for the September 11 attacks. In doing so, the United States accidentally caused the collapse of the Iraqi government, necessitating aid in its reconstruction. The United States had a reason and a goal for going into Iraq 7 years ago, but those reasons no longer apply. The United States needed to go to Iraq because our national security was in danger, but now the war in Iraq is no longer necessary. Say no to plagiarism. When America's national security was shattered by the terrorist attacks of September 11, everything hung in the balance. As a country, we had to rebuild our national security to ensure that nothing like this ever happened again. Living with the fear that something like 9/11 could happen on any normal day, as it did in 2001, is one of the worst feelings you can live with. Americans continued to live without knowing if their tomorrow was their last, or if the next plane they took would be brought down by terrorists. We could not live in peace as a country if we did not do something to prevent another attack and to put the American people at ease. Saddam Hussein was the dictator of Iraq for over 20 years. He was also partly responsible for the September 11 terrorist attack on our country. For these reasons, the United States wanted Hussein captured. Hussein was to be captured because of his violent power tactics and his ties to Al-Qaeda and Osama bin Laden. Saddam knew what he had done and knew that American forces were pursuing him. When U.S. forces captured Hussein, he was hiding "in an underground hideout on a farm near his hometown, Tikrit." Now that the United States captured Saddam Hussein and killed him in 2006, why are our troops still in Iraq? To fight for our national security and kill the men responsible for 9/11, the United States did something we never intended to do. We destroyed the Iraqi government. By capturing and killing Saddam Hussein, the United States caused the collapse of the Iraqi government. It is entirely correct that “our goal…is to build stable and legitimate states whose own citizens will not seek to destroy [their government]. States that…allow the possibility of policy change through democratic means” and that are not ruled by a dictatorship (Feldman, 8). After all, it is in America's best interest that we try to establish democratic governments around the world to avoid a repeat of the Cold War. Keep in mind: this is just a sample.
