Essay / The Causes of Climate Change - 1880
Many people might think that anthropogenic influences are the only cause of climate change on Earth. However, many factors, unnoticed by the human population, contribute to this critical problem. For example, the most common phenomenon is global warming, which is a factor in the progression of climate change over time. (1) This means that climate change did not occur in just one year, but throughout Earth's entire climate history. In the modern era, this is a controversial issue where people only think that human activity is the main cause of climate change, but there is consensus on this issue. 97.1 percent of scientists believe climate change trends are caused by human effects. (10) This means that human actions such as deforestation, burning of fossil fuels and population growth lead to an increase in greenhouse gases such as CO₂ in the atmosphere, thus contributing to the greenhouse effect. (4, 5) Nevertheless, there are many natural causes such as volcanic eruptions that cause global cooling, solar irradiation that has affected climate in the past, and ocean currents that affect the exchange of gases in and out of the atmosphere. (2, 3) To begin with, one of the causes of climate change due to human action is deforestation and its use for land and agricultural purposes. One effect is that the water cycle is disrupted due to the loss of trees, which moves water vapor into the atmosphere. (6, 9) Additionally, trees absorb greenhouse gases, so without it, the amount of CO₂ in the atmosphere increases. (6) According to the IPCC, based on the 2004 Edgar databases, deforestation was responsible for 7 to 16 percent of total greenhouse gas emissions. (7)This is because the e...... middle of paper ......aphic%20trends%20matter%20to%20climate%20change.pdf15) http://www.ipcc.ch/publications_and_data /ar4 /syr/en/mains3.html16) http://www.ipcc.ch/ipccreports/far/wg_I/ipcc_far_wg_I_chapter_01.pdf17) http://eprints.usq.edu.au/2530/1/climate_justice_campaigns_and_environmental_refugees.pdf18 ) http://volcanoes.usgs.gov/hazards/gas/climate.php19) http://climate.envsci.rutgers.edu/pdf/ROG2000.pdf20) http://climate.nasa.gov/causes21) http :/ /www.atmos-chem-phys.net/13/3945/2013/acp-13-3945-2013.pdf22) http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Features/SORCE/sorce_03.php23) http:/ /www .ipcc.ch/publications_and_data/ar4/syr/en/spms1.html24) http://www.ipcc.ch/publications_and_data/ar4/syr/en/spms3.html25) http://www.pfeg.noaa .gov /research/climatemarine/cmfoceanatm/cmfoceanatm2.html26) http://www.neaq.org/conservation_and_research/climate_change/climate_change_and_the_oceans.php
