In America, there have always been many controversies regarding health care in our country. Since the turn of the 20th century, America and some of its people have been ready for change. Before Obamacare came along, many people in America were denied health care because of pre-existing conditions they had, which, for the most part, were almost never the fault of those citizens. In the movie “Sicko,” Michael Moore asked his fans and followers to send him their healthcare horror stories. After receiving over twenty thousand emails overnight, Moore set out on a quest to visit some of the people who had horrible stories with their health insurance. Some people had claimed that they were denied the right to get health insurance in the first place due to pre-existing conditions, such as having previously suffered from diabetes, cancer and even extremes like being "too skinny" or "too fat ". That's not even the worst part, some people who already had health insurance were being denied surgeries/procedures recommended by their doctors. For example, a woman told Moore that her doctor had discovered a tumor in her brain. of course I wanted to delete it as quickly as possible. When the woman received a letter from her insurance, it made it clear that her brain tumor was not life-threatening and that she didn't really need to have it removed. Unfortunately, this woman ended up dying from her brain tumor. She's not even the half of it, many other people Moore visited in his film had told stories of how their loved ones died because they were denied surgery. A mother lost her daughter because the hospital she was taken to wouldn't even take her because of the health insurance she had and another woman lost her husband because he needed a bone graft that his health insurance had refused him. If America had a universal healthcare system, no one would ever have to be turned away or rejected for surgeries or pre-existing health conditions. Second, I think another big reason why America should move to universal healthcare is the difference in costs. In the film, Moore visits France, a country believed to have one of the best healthcare systems on the planet. Moore finds a family in France who says they have absolutely no debt to health insurance or their health care, whereas in America people are essentially drowning in their debt to their health care provider. Moore had brought a group of people he found who could not qualify for health care and a group of 9/11 volunteers to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, seeking free health care on American soil. Although they were not lucky enough to find health care there, they nevertheless wandered the streets of Guantanamo looking for a doctor's office or a pharmacy.
