Mr. Wagamese left alone, without the help of others. Meanwhile, Bilbo is a strong individual but for the journey he had by his side a team of 13 dwarves and a powerful wizard to support him. “You asked me to find the fourteenth man for your expedition, and I chose Mr. Baggins.” (Tolkien 23) This is what Gandalf said when the dwarves thought Bilbo was not good enough to join them on their important quest. When Mr. Wagamese set out against his town in an attempt to inform citizens of the damage they were inflicting on the town, he was alone. Even though the citizens were not very informed on the topic of deforestation, Mr. Wagamese faced them and educated them without the help of any other person. This shows that he is an independent individual who does not need help from others when he finds himself in difficult situations. Bilbo showed that he was a strong person, capable of getting through difficult times. During a risky and dangerous journey, Bilbo sometimes showed that he needed a little help from his companions, the dwarves and Gandalf. Mr. Wagamese was able to stand up and face the citizens thanks to his strong personality. Bilbo has some tough enemies to defeat and on several occasions he has needed the help of the dwarves in times of battle. This shows that Mr. Wagamese is an independent individual and that in the difficult journey to Smaug, Bilbo depends on his
