The three articles highlight two unethical issues committed by KFC and one article explains why KFC is one of the leading fast food franchises nationwide. Unethical business practices unfortunately affect the business because they reflect negatively on the company and therefore deter consumers from purchasing products from the franchise. If a company acts unethically, it loses its competitive advantage and therefore suffers loss of sales and even possibly loss of investors. Many elements contribute to the success of a company's image, such as CSR, employee satisfaction, customer satisfaction and their business practices. Unfortunately, a few unethical decisions by a restaurant can negatively affect the image of the entire business. Unfortunately, this negatively affects all other branches, as their commercial image is compromised. In both negative articles, the company's image has been negatively affected and thus places KFC in a vulnerable position. KFC Good Ethical Practices: We can see in the third article how KFC has created its good reputation so far. We are exposed daily to how they operate and sell their products. This article shows us how KFC produces high quality and safe products for the public. This article only shows us the positive aspects of how each KFC store operates. Sometimes it is bias because KFC will act ethically and make sure everything is done correctly to show a good image to the media but due to their past experiences and unethical practices , this raises some eyebrows. The impact of unethical practices on South African culture: Unfortunately, the controversial issues of washing chicken on the floor and sharpening knives on sidewalks do not bode well for KFC. This shows that KFC does not care about the well-being of the South African market. By washing their chicken on the floor it shows that they do not care about the cleanliness or hygiene of their products. This makes the public think that KFC is giving them dirty food products that might contain unwanted diseases or dirt. South Africa is an extremely diverse country and many religions require food to be slaughtered and prepared in a certain way. This includes cleanliness and the equipment used to prepare food. Therefore, by preparing their food with sharp knives on the sidewalks and washing their chicken on the ground, KFC is showing massive disrespect to many religions and therefore offending the South African public and downgrading the idea that diversity is good. Cleanliness and hygiene: Cleanliness and hygiene play a major role in the success of a business in South Africa. It is ethical to keep your restaurants clean and maintain your equipment to a certain standard. It is ethical to treat your equipment and stock with care, always considering the cleanliness of both aspects. Unfortunately, KFC was very unethical by washing their stock on a dirty floor. This shows a lack of respect for the products given to the customer. Unfortunately, it also shows that they don't care about maintaining a good business reputation. Fortunately, KFC took action and stated that this unethical incident was unacceptable as they have certain waste reduction projects in place and must adhere to certain cleanliness and hygiene standards.
