Essay / Disney Film Analysis - 944
Several studies have been carried out to analyze how Disney does things. Three different examinations/analyses, covering a total of 48 Disney films, found that female protagonists focused on their sexuality, particularly with characters of color, in which there were frequent examples of sexism and racism in films that emphasized the "pale skin tones, small waists, delicate limbs and full breasts" of leads. One of the three showed and provided examples of gender roles that were out of date with how today's society perceives these roles; this analysis focused on a multitude of domestic work performed by women. The latter study examined the films according to different cultural constructs including gender and distinguished the consistency of stereotypes throughout the films, with even the last of the films having fewer stereotypes (Dawn et al., 556-557). These three studies all demonstrate an interesting effort in the way gender roles and stereotypes are represented in Disney.
