  • Essay / Personal Statement for Environmental Engineering

PERSONAL STATEMENTChristopher ColemanCivil Engineering MajorOhio UniversityWith a changing world and a growing population, environmental engineers constantly face challenges in designing and managing systems that help utilize our natural resources without degrading our land. I want to face these challenges head on, with my passion for the environment and my ability to resolve unknowns; I intend to become an environmental engineer. All of my education prepared me for my next goal: obtaining my master's degree in environmental engineering. After graduating from high school, I was accepted into Cincinnati State Technical and Community College. While studying at Cincinnati State, I took a wide range of engineering courses such as geographic information systems, surveying and drafting, and fluid dynamics, as well as environmental courses such as environmental sampling, regulations and permits, and water and wastewater treatment monitoring. Even though I only received my associate's degree from Cincinnati State, I took additional math courses, such as pre-calculus, to prepare myself for further education. After graduating from Cincinnati State, I then transferred to Shawnee State University to pursue a bachelor's degree in environmental engineering technology. Shawnee helped me expand my knowledge and I took engineering courses like thermodynamics, toxicology, and electricity/electronics. My education at Shawnee State University prepared me for the world of work and provided me with entry-level job opportunities. I had to work for most of my university life, my mother helped me as best she could, but to complete my studies I had to earn money. In my opinion. During my first year at Cincinnati State, I worked part-time as an extra...... middle of paper ......e microorganisms to treat and clean water and soil contaminated as well as to use them to naturally eliminate contaminants. I am so ready and eager to do research in environmental engineering because it will give me the opportunity to move into another area of my field. One of my future goals is to teach an environmental engineering course part-time at a university. Of course, this requires an advanced degree. Attending Ohio University and earning my master's degree is a major goal and perhaps one of the biggest and most difficult goals I want to overcome. I am destined for greatness and Ohio University will definitely put me on the right path toward that destiny. I know that Ohio University will greatly expand my knowledge and challenge me to reach new heights that I never thought I would reach! My goals are high because I know I am fortunate to have the clarity to achieve my career goals..
