Visit the Writing Center October 30, 2015The business events industry is such a diverse and dynamic field that over the past 40 years it has experienced enormous growth and impact of change over time. The reason for its growth is because customers want more spectacular events. The career growth rate is said to be 33% between 2012 and 2022, which is actually much faster than any other profession. (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015) It is also predicted that between 2012 and 2020 there will be approximately 44,200 job openings in this sector alone. (O Net Development) When hired in this field, employers look for employees who can work as part of a team to provide a variety of services to create a special event for their clients. The purpose of this article will be to explore my career option in event management. Elements that will be studied will include job responsibilities, trends, career opportunities, self-analysis, and the skills required to succeed in this career. The research I will do will be based on articles, the web and books. I will also conduct an interview with an industry professional in this field who works at the Orlando World Center. So who is an event planner and what do they do? An event manager is the person responsible for organizing an event from start to finish. They do this by coordinating the details of the event, calculating budgets and ensuring that the client accepts it. They will meet with clients to understand what they want to do and from there they will move on to the next stages of event planning and development. Event managers are also responsible for coming out, negotiating and securing the location of the event space for the client...... middle of paper ......reported to events, and also performing my internships. Some skills I need to work on are improving my leadership skills, my negotiation skills, and not being shy around new people. After completing my research on this industry, I agree that it is something I would like to tackle one day. . I know it will be a lot of work to get there, but I know it will be worth it in the end. I see myself one day working as an event planner and progressing from there. All I know is that being able to plan a special event and work as a team with other people was something that interested me and after doing this research I learned new things that I never knew before. didn't know about it before and now I'm more intrigued by this industry. All I have to do now is take the next step to achieve this goal and stick to it no matter what comes my way..
