My interest and attitude towards international relations and global studies emerged when I was in college in South Korea. Every time I turned on the television, I often saw North Korea's intercontinental ballistic missile launch tests making headlines. At this point I wonder why we can't come together. However, as I read articles about it, I realized that it was not just a question but an economic, social and political concern. Thus, I wish to look behind the headlines and have a deeper understanding of global politics, foreign affairs and international security. Second, I strongly believe that we must support LGBT people. In 8th grade, I was assigned a project on sexual orientation. I learned that many teenagers are victims of bullying and are four times more likely to commit suicide than heterosexual teenagers. From there, I started to become very interested in LGBT people. In my opinion, everyone should have the equal right to be free from violence and discrimination; and violence against LGBT people is becoming a serious problem worldwide. For example, there was a shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando on June 12, 2016 and 49 people were shot. As I got to know LGBT people, it struck my heart and made me want to share this internationally. I also had a great opportunity to experience different cultures. The second experience I am proud of was when I was chosen as a school representative to participate in the Jeju Youth Forum in my first year of high school in Japan. The Jeju Youth Forum brings together students from all over the world and participants discuss global issues and share their views. We were divided into 5 different panels and started discussing our problems in our own countries. Working with my group, I gained a deeper understanding of diverse perspectives on everything from economic issues to the environment.
