    As Obama stated in Proclamation 9255 declaring April 13 National Equal Pay Day, “Wage inequality affects us all, and we must each do more to ensure that women participate fully and equally in social life. our economy” (Obama). It will take more than one person and a day to set the wages of men and women, but it has to start somewhere. “Individuals are encouraged to learn how to value their work, become familiar with salary scales in their field and learn how to negotiate. Companies are encouraged to offer transparent salary information to their employees and to hire and pay without bias” (Goodale). We, as individuals and as a whole, must work together to learn and teach others to view men and women and their abilities as equal. It won't be easy, but it must be done in the interests of all women, families that support a woman's salary, and society as a whole..
