Essay / Fashion is cyclical, so wait for it to come back
One of the most important cyclical cycles in life is fashion. Fashion is a never-ending cycle of creating new designs and bringing back the most important trends from the past. Every decade, a new generation of fashion emerges. The 1960s were all about love and expression and the 1970s were all about disco and having fun. It seemed then that a whole new era of fashion was born in the 1980s. Everything about fashion seemed to have a new twist. In the 1980s, the unique style of punk pop greatly influenced Americans across the country. Girls seemed to have experienced a sea change during the 80s. A sense of power was realized by women and the desire to express that power and their individuality accompanied it. The clothes the girls wore would surely have been looked down upon in previous decades, but they were welcomed with open arms. Some of the biggest trends included: Bold neon colors, loose shirts, tight pants and lots of lace. Even though girls were nice and decent before the 80s, it seemed to give a feeling that you just couldn't contain them. Men also peaked in the mid-eighties. In previous decades, men typically wore more upscale suits or casual wear, but like girls, this seemed to go out of style. Trends such as parachute pants, jackets or vests, cutoff shirts, and tight pants became popular in the early to mid-eighties. Much like women's clothing, clothing was usually in bright, bold, neon colors. You can also usually find large sunglasses, converse or vans in a typical boy's closet. Just like girls, men became very expressive and tried to find their individuality. They seemed public... middle of paper ... people would look back and wonder what was going through everyone's minds and wonder how any of them thought it was cool to s dress this way. Sometimes you just have to imagine what was really going through someone's head at the time. When you had so many influences on television and in the music industry, it would have been unusual not to dress like everyone else. The 80s were one of the most unique and brilliant decades of the 20th century. Instead of doing what was supposed to be done, everyone pushed the boundaries and dared to be different and that's what made the 80s so unique. Works Cited “Madonna”. Fashion in the 80s. NP, 2011.
