Essay / Parenting Style in Amy Chua's Tiger Fight Anthem...
A tiger mom usually thinks she knows what's best for her child. This is why some tiger mothers can lead to the abuse of their child. However, if you have a tiger mom, you will likely grow up to show respect when respect is needed. You will respect your elders and listen to them when expected. For example, Chua tells us how she was called trash for talking back to her mother. To succeed and thrive in most areas, you need respect for yourself and others. For example, if you were looking for a job and didn't respect any of the workers, you probably wouldn't get that job. It is with this thought in mind that Hanna Rosin wrote an article, Mother Inferior, in which she presents several examples of the differences between Chua's parenting techniques and her own. She explains why she thinks Chua is wrong and doesn't fit the "Western" parenting stereotype. Rosin states that, in Chua's mind, she is a pathetic and weak Western mother (Rosin 309). She says: “It's more that I don't have it in me. I just don’t have the crazy motivation to do it” (Rosin 310). Instead, she values her time with her children and ensures that they live a virtuous life..
