I'm not the traditional person sitting in a restaurant with my nose stuck in front of the cell phone or fingers busy texting, but I see people doing this sort of thing constantly. But I can certainly relate in part to Carr's essay, which worries that we are becoming more and more dependent on the Internet. On the contrary, I'm not sure I agree with him when he suggests that over time the Internet will change our entire cognitive development. This is a very heavy assumption and may or may not be true, as there are no long-term studies to demonstrate yet. However, over time, many long-term neurological and psychological studies will likely be performed to adequately address these concerns. The Internet simply hasn't been around long enough to produce reliable results. I'm a huge advocate of the internet and technology in general, but I decided a long time ago not to let it suck me in and that's what seems to have happened to a lot of people over time. If I don't monitor myself, I'll sit at the computer most of the time, maybe just surfing for nothing in particular or listening to music. If I bought an iPhone, I would probably be tempted to use it to its full capacity. I don't want to spend my
