    They denote opportunity, a new job and a new life. “Min saw the city with different eyes: each city was the possibility of a more desirable job than the one she had” (p. 75). The different factories are an integral part of her life, they determine who she is. However, Min can easily become detached from a location because the meaning of a particular plant is temporary. She becomes attached to the factory while working, but can quickly leave without any hesitation to a place where opportunities are better. Abruptly changing jobs has no effect on Min or other migrants. A modified form of placelessness, where places have temporary significance but still lack diversity, is realized in the city of
