Similar themes in Kitchen God's Wife and Joy Luck ClubAmy Tan's two novels, The Kitchen God's Wife and The Joy Luck Club, represent one voice unique that is rarely heard in the literature. Tan is a Chinese-American woman who tells stories of old China rich in history and culture. Both novels have at least one strong central female character who attempts to educate her daughter about her Chinese heritage and family roots. The plot of The Joy Luck Club displays this idea in each woman's story. The older generation consists of four women: Suyuan Woo, An-Mei Hsu, Lindo Jong and Ying-Ying St. Clair. They tell their stories to their daughters, hoping to preserve some of their rich history and ancient way of life in China.
