  • Essay / Medical Assistant Essay - 1178

I think PA and those in similar fields are careers that evolve as technology evolves, so they won't be obsolete after ten or twenty years. I feel like I'm capable of growing in this career. I won't be stuck in one specialty forever and this allows me to explore many options in the medical field. In the past, I have worked with people from different backgrounds and age groups, from caring for kindergartners in daycare centers to working with teachers as a teacher's assistant. In my experience in these jobs, I encountered students who spoke no English, some only spoke Spanish, and others were too shy to say anything. As an immigrant myself, I knew how difficult it was for these students to adapt to a completely different environment and try to learn at the same time. Every day I sat down individually with each student and took my time to chat with them, when we had difficulty understanding each other we made drawings. I also made an effort to try to remember Spanish vocabulary from my high school when talking with the Spanish-speaking students. In the future, as a PA, I will serve people like these students who have very different backgrounds and personalities. I think being able to work as a team with compassion instead of ordering people what to do all the time is a great skill for a PA to have. Even though I've worked with a lot of children, I think I'm definitely more exposed to the older group.
