  • Essay / Analysis of the play 60 PSA - 1010

Heinrichs describes the use of the will to act as "showing the light bulb that change is child's play and inspiring it with a vision of lightness." (22-23) This means showing the audience that acting on the situation will not only be easy, but will also be in their best interest. The PSA in Exhibit 60 creates a desire to act by saying: “Now is the time for all of us to do our part by donating, by serving, by volunteering, by helping children your community to be more active and healthier. All these things are quite easy to do and it promises to have happy and healthy children. An example of creating a willingness to act could be your friend asking you to take them to the store. At first you say no because you don't feel like driving, but after he tells you it's only 5 minutes away and he'll buy you something, of course you say yes . Your friend made it easy for you and that promises a reward. Using ethos, virtue and the will to act together, they ensured that the audience trusted the speaker and felt that they shared the same values. This then consisted of convincing the public that it is easy to act and that it creates, in their interest, a very convincing message.
