Essay / Pros and Cons of the Affordable Care Act - 1244
With an estimated 30 million Americans expected to gain health insurance through the Affordable Care Act, healthcare workers are feeling the pressure. One problem already evident is the critical shortage of healthcare professionals. The ACA breaks promises of access and quality of care for all Americans by worsening the shortage and increasing the burden and stress on health care providers. The ACA has attempted to address the shortage of healthcare professionals, but its efforts will not produce results for years due to training requirements. Another daunting problem is the 190 million hours of paperwork imposed on healthcare companies each year. With the shortage of healthcare workers, patients will continue to feel the impact of having to deal with increased wait times, limited access to providers, and reduced time with caregivers. The burden of patient satisfaction will fall on healthcare professionals. This will increase stress and instability among healthcare workers and endanger patient care. In conclusion, there are many positive aspects of the Affordable Care Act. The idea of making it possible for every American to have insurance is a great goal, but the burden that will be placed on the health care community and all populations must be considered. The financial burdens placed on those who already have a fixed budget will continue to have negative implications for communities across the United States. The Affordable Care Act is not the savior of the American health care system. There are still many issues that are not addressed in the plan and cannot be brushed under the rug in any way.
