Essay / John's Alone In Realization - 671
Alone in RealizationThe frequent use of alienation as a central theme is because it is common to all humans. Alienation is a feeling of not belonging. This feeling can be physical, mental, religious, spiritual, psychological, political, social or economic and often tends to be a combination of several of these types. Alienation is a driving force that pushes human consciousness to extremes. Whether it is alienation from civilization or alienation from society, radical changes occur as a result. States of alienation arise as a result of many situations. A wise man once said that the alienation between a person and his environment is not only an "irreparable gap" but also "a powerful, even disillusioning, experience." The life of John “Johnny” Anderson will perhaps reinforce the impact of this adage. Johnny, a young boy who, against his will, finds himself thrown into a dark world, far from the life he has always known. This sudden feeling of estrangement and alienation sets in when his adoptive mother presents him with the news that will change his life and he learns that he will be transferred to a new foster family. As an orphaned child, Johnny always felt a certain distance from his foster family, but over time this distance gradually lessened and he finally felt like he belonged somewhere. He is forever changed when he learns the news about his adoptive mother and he realizes that he will never truly belong in a home. He feels hopeless and without anything solid to hold on to. Johnny has allied himself with a local gang. Finally, it seems that he found refuge even if it is not in a warm house. Johnny depends on the gang for the essentials he needs to survive, like food and shelter. It's a very comforting place... middle of paper ...... in the dark at night, lest they be recognized. In the end, he learned that he was alone and he knew that he was alone and that he was going to continue living his life trying to put together the broken pieces of his lonely heart. He has become alienated and there is little chance that things will ever return to normal. In every society there is an underlying darkness which is alienation. Those who are victims of alienation become invisible and voiceless members of society. Alienation often goes unnoticed, but it is always there. One of the greatest feats in life is finding a companion, a true friend. It is practically the antithesis of the state of alienation that almost every man is sure to encounter at some point in his life. The struggle to eliminate it will continue forever as long as man strives not only to be, but also not to be alone..
