The evils that pollution brings to the environment and the species that occupy it “One hundred and fifty years ago, the monster began, this country had become a place of industry. Factories grew across the landscape like weeds. Trees fell, fields were turned upside down, rivers turned black. The sky was choking with smoke and ash, and so were the people, spending their days coughing and itching, their eyes forever turned to the ground. Villages turned into towns, towns into cities. And people began to live on the land rather than in it. -Patrick NessThis quote from Patrick Ness should immerse us and open our minds to what we do to this planet we call home. Humans should be very aware of the destruction of the Earth by pollution. Pollution is a global epidemic created by countless factors, including: the use of agricultural chemicals, war waste, and too many oil spills. Farms are increasingly dependent on chemical fertilizers, pesticides and insecticides. These chemicals can remain in the soil and leach into water supplies if used at the incorrect dosage. The main ingredient in fertilizers is nitrogen which, unfortunately, if left in immense concentrations, will change the acidity of the soil. Poisons can leach into plants and throughout the food cycle they will infect animals that eat the plants and the process will lead to contamination with the poisons resulting from ingesting the plants and/or animals. Once we eat the poisoned plants and animals, the poison enters our bodies, which could potentially lead to a wide variety of cancers and diseases. There are countless negative factors that impact the environment due to improper agricultural practices. Inaccurate care contributes to environmental factors...... middle of paper...... Aug 13).
