  • Essay / Gamification in education? Game ON or Game Over?

Let’s start with gamification? This is a complete misconception about what gamification is. Many people think that gamification is a branch of gaming, so what is gamification actually? Gamification is the art of absorbing the fun and addictive elements of games (game mechanics) and applying them in real-world applications. According to one of the gurus of gamification, Yu-kai Chou, gamification is a design process that optimizes for the human or "human-centered design" in the system, as opposed to pure efficiency or a “function-centered design” of the system Most systems are “function-centered” and designed to get the job done quickly However, human-centered design remembers that the people in the system have feelings. , insecurities and reasons why they want or don't want to do things, and therefore optimizes for their feelings, motivations and engagement. Inside games there are "goals", like killing the dragon. or save the princess, or in math games like dreambox to learn/practice math, but in reality, the main goal of a game is to please the human inside, to entertain the player. games, we learn to master motivation and engagement. Games have the incredible ability to keep people engaged for a long time, build relationships and trust between people, and develop their creative potential. In a nutshell, gamification is a way to engage people by making something that is not a game feel like a game. Gamification is a tool used to achieve a goal and in education, the goal is to improve student learning. In my thinking, I would consider using one of the online math programs, Dreambox learning, to improve our students' learning, particularly in math. Our school uses DreamBox Lea... middle of paper... unless people want to play", there has to be a voluntary aspect to it. But overall we think DreamBox is a good idea. , and has a lot to do. DreamBox may not change learning, but it clearly changes access to learning, and that's worth exploring. I know there are still many debates going on. to know if gamification in education is a fad or a future? and if there are places in our school? I still see that there is a lot of potential in the field of educational gamification. , there should be a way to help children learn from what they do best: play. This is why many educators are investigating a variety of new educational gamification tools and techniques if we can harness/use. the energy, motivation and potential of their game and direct them towards learning, we can give students the tools necessary to become a winner in the real game of life.
