  • Essay / Illegal Immigration - 742

Illegal ImmigrationOne of the United States amendments states that everyone should be treated equally. However, over the past decade, immigration has been a major problem in the United States. Are they treated equally? The great nation of the United States was built by European immigrants from the earliest settlers. As much as people try to avoid the problem, illegal immigration is an unsolved problem. Today the question is: should illegal immigrants remain in the United States or should they be detained and deported back to their countries? Deporting illegal immigrants will not reduce crime rates, or end human trafficking into the United States. According to Daniel Kanstroom, this shows that illegal immigrants do not increase the crime rate and that their expulsion will not reduce the entry of illegal people. Kanstroom states that “deportation has not deterred illegal immigration, which increased steadily between 2000 and 2007. Nor has it substantially reduced serious crime rates; a 2007 study found that U.S.-born men between the ages of 18 and 39 were five times more likely than foreign-born men to be imprisoned” (Kanstroom, 2012). People who come to this country not to create problems but to have a better life should have a chance to stay in the United States. Family separations are one of the dark consequences of deportation: children are left behind with an uncertain future. Most illegal immigrants are not criminals, they are simply people hungry for a better life. Illegal workers have a significant impact on agricultural industries, jobs that are unwanted by Americans and filled by illegal immigrants. Without immigrants, the state's agricultural economy could decline significantly, as Alana Semuel... middle of paper ...... agrees with both parties. Immigrants are part of this nation; they help the economy of this country in many ways but also harm it. Action must be taken immediately before it is too late and things get out of control.
