Essay / “In Brent Staples' "Just Walk on By: Black Men and Public Space," Staples describes the issues, stereotypes, and criticism he faces. a black man in a public place. Staples initiates his point of view by making the audience believe that he is committing a crime, but ultimately reveals how the actions taken against him are due to fear related to his labeled stereotypes of rapists, gangsters, and muggers. Staples continues to take audiences through a 20-year-old experience and highlights the fact that even though he has proven his survival over other stereotypical blacks with his level of education and work ethic in the era modern, he is still in the same situation. Although Staples recounts these burdens through his personal experiences rather than directly revealing the psychological impacts of such actions on African Americans through research, he effectively uses emotion to explain the social effects and challenges they faced in order to avoid causing a ruckus with “white Americans”. world while keeping its reference up to date and consistent with its history. Staples successfully begins not only by admitting the possible faults in his practiced running but also by understanding the point of view of the one who fears them. Black men open to more violence because of the environment they grew up in are labeled as more likely to cause harm or commit crimes against women, but Staples questions why this issue changes the perspective of contact daily face to face and questions simple actions. of a black man?
