  • Essay / Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett - 1719

    1. GenreWe believe that this play is a psychological and philosophical play, because it is about two men who are waiting for a God. So, in our opinion, this play, although it is an absurd scene, is about religion. We think it's a game of ideas, we know what's happening when we see her on stage, not before. The author explains something using logic.2. Narrator and narrationAs this is a play, we have not been able to find a common narrator here: what we find are the characters speaking, using dialogue. But, in a way, we can consider the author's explanations of the actors' movements and the setting as a kind of narrator, which in this case would be used in the 3rd person. it will be objective, because we can understand the play however we want, we can interpret the story in many ways: what this narrator does is help us understand the story. We think the author's understanding of life limits the story. : the two main characters always think of Godot to come, of death to come. In our opinion, the author wants readers to enjoy life. As we have already said, the narrator who appears in the room helps us imagine the scene, what the characters look like, their clothes... He places us in the room. .3. ThemeAs we have already said, the main theme of this play is religion, "faith in God".ESTRAGON:Let's go.VLADIMIR:We can't.ESTRAGON:Why not?VLADIMIR:We are waiting for Godot. They they wait for him all day because they believe he will help them. Another minor theme that we can find: - The illness of the two protagonists, which in our opinion is Alzheimer's, which makes them, especially Estragon, not to remember what had happened the day before. 4. StyleAll events in this play are told chronologically. There are no flashbacks, the story is linear, because one act leads to another act, as we can see at the beginning of each of them: "The next day. Same time. Same place". When the two main characters speak, it is important to know that both are saying and repeating the same things that others have already said: ESTRAGON: What should I say? VLADIMIR: Say, I'm happy. ESTRAGON: I am happy. VLADIMIR: So I am.
