Christof, the director of The Truman Show, uses a variety of cinematic techniques to emphasize Truman's ignorance of being filmed. It is important in the film that Truman is unaware that he is being watched because the series is about his life. If he knows he is being watched, he would want to leave the show and go to the "real world", which would not be good for the show because it is about him. Characterization is one of the topics that will be covered, then dialogue, setting and camera angles. The characterization technique will be analyzed by discussing how the characterization technique is used throughout The Truman Show, to prove that Truman is unaware that he is being observed. The characterization technique is mainly used in scene 4, this is important because Meryl has to use this technique for the audience and for the show. An example from the film that proves the characterization technique took place is when Meryl walks down the stairs seductively while posing for the camera while talking to Truman.
