The problem with the ideal self is that the individual is the only one who can change the perspective he or she has created. Karen Horney (1950) explains further with this statement. The energies that lead to self-realization are shifted toward the goal of actualizing the idealized self. (pg24) Therefore, the person leaves reality to go to the fantasy world. Karen Horney's theory on neurotic assertions in Chapter 2 was the only chapter I couldn't get into. I understand that in a neurotic statement my self creates a fantasy world where not everything is the same, but at some point the fantasy has to stop and reality has to take over. And that's why I disagree with chapter 2 Neurotic
