  • Essay / Discuss the different relationships between man and...

In "All the Pretty Horses", Luis states that "between men there was no communion like between horses and the idea that men being able to be understood was probably an illusion. , by this he means that the relationship that man maintains with nature is totally unique, it is sacred; the relationship between men is a mistake. In some ways the reader may agree with this statement because it is true that man's relationship with animals and nature is quite simple compared to man's relationship with each other which is much more complex in due to conflicts of opinion and other complications. John Grady Cole's relationship with Alejandra faced many turmoil and complications. One of the biggest problems they faced was the fact that Alejandra's family condemned their relationship and banned her from being with him. To some extent, John's romance with Alejandra mirrors Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet in terms of their forbidden love, but their story does not end in tragedy. Wordsworth shows that nature is more of a companion to man in “The Solitary Reaper”. The woman harvests the crops alone in the field, singing in a voice so “enthusiastic” that it resonates “Long after, we could no longer hear it”. Even though she is alone, she depends entirely on the food she receives and the relationship she has with nature. The poet compares her to the cuckoo and the nightingale stating "No nightingale ever sang more welcome notes to weary groups." Being compared to birds with such beautiful singing surely shows one's unity with nature. Unlike the "maiden" Victor who attempts to control and dominate nature, this resentment could stem from the fact that his mother died of fever, which caused him to go to great lengths to construct this figure from of different parts of the body to create a creation..... .middle of paper ......like the stars that shine and twinkle on the milky way' painting a very vivid picture in the reader's mind, the poet finds joy and comfort in nature, he explains 'And then my heart with pleasure fills, and dances with the daffodils. Mary Shelly in “Frankenstein” illustrates the relationship between man and nature through the character of Dr. Victor Frankenstein. Mary Shelly explores man's efforts to dominate nature and concluded through Victor's actions that nature is unstoppable and spontaneous and that man should not try to control something that does not belong to him. Rather, man should work in coherence with nature, giving it the same respect. Overall, McCarthy, Wordsworth, and Shelly all display the importance and preeminence of nature to humanity, and we should work alongside nature to improve our quality of life and minimize negative impact on nature..
