They have never been as fast or energetic as young people, but societies have often valued them for their accumulated skills, knowledge, and wisdom. The same technological advancement that allows our society to keep an ever-larger percentage of elderly bodies alive has simultaneously reduced the value of the mind within those bodies. The use of new technological gadgets like computers and tabs leads to less use of the human mind. Start by considering factual knowledge, an older person will certainly know more than a younger person, but can anyone, young or old, know as much as Google and Wikipedia? Why would a young person ask an elder for the answer to a factual question that can be answered authoritatively in 10 seconds by phone or computer over the Internet? Here we can cite another example, my father who is a wise and educated man does not know how to use an ATM card, either he enters an incorrect PIN card number or it gets stuck in the machine and asks for my help . Another answer would be to develop obvious wisdom. Unfortunately, the young people who most need the wisdom of an elder are the least likely to realize it. Only a small percentage of older people throughout history have managed to maintain high status and value through wisdom alone, and due to these technological advancements, they fall behind and are unable to cope with new things.
