Essay / The Benefits of Movement in Education - 699
The topic I chose to research was education through movement. Have you ever been in an environment in the same seat for hours and noticed that you look around, space out, and time seems to never move. Your concentration is gone, but then you get a 10 minute break and when you come back, your concentration is better than ever. This is what students in our schools experience without movement education. Sitting in a seat for hours is physically difficult for anyone to stay interested in any topic. Significant breaks in the movements involved are necessary for the health of the students' learning experience. I think this is important for all ages of learning. It is a fact that after 15 minutes of learning, it is difficult for students to stay focused. Movement education allows students to think cognitively while physically moving, which stimulates the brain and body; this allows the student to learn while being active. Being active also does two things for the student: it allows them to regain their concentration while stimulating their brain and it calms the class by taking away some of the unnecessary energy. Movement education is crucial, especially at a young age. Movement is the architect of the brain, mind and body working together to build a non-verbal understanding of life. Working out while being active improves your brain strength. In human development, movement is crucial because it is a sensorimotor process. Your mind and body develop at the same time through the socialization process that begins in childhood. Movement education is valuable from early life through old age. Infants need some form of exercise to build muscles and learn to sit, roll, crawl and walk. Babies who are also involved in movement feel calm...... middle of paper ......rk. There are many ways to apply movement education. As long as you challenge students mentally and physically, it's movement education. With the information I have learned about movement education, I know that in my classroom it will be applied and I will try to promote it within my district. The more active students are, the stronger their brains will become and the healthier they will live. By integrating movement education into the curriculum, the learning atmosphere will become a better place for students to concentrate and learn any subject.Bibliographyhttp://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/269311.phphttp ://www.additudemag.com/adhd /article/1031.html http://www.movement-education.org/http://www.health.gov/paguidelines/blog/post/News-and-Reports-March -1-2010.aspxhttp://www.wholechildeducation.org/blog/the-importance-of-movement
