  • Essay / Women in Islam - 1553

Today, people believe that women were liberated in the West and that the women's liberation movement began in the 20th century. In fact, Islam preceded all existing systems by introducing women's rights more than fourteen centuries ago. The women's liberation movement was revealed by God to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in the seventh century. A whole set of new rights were suddenly granted to women by their creator without them having to fight to obtain them. The Quran and the Traditions of the Prophet (Hadith and Sunnah) guarantee each Muslim woman certain rights and duties. Equality versus IdentityThese rights are equal to those of a man but they are not necessarily the same. Equality and similarity are two different things. This difference is understandable because men and women are not identical but they are created equal. The distinction between equality and similarity is of paramount importance. Keeping this distinction in mind, it is not permissible to imagine that women are inferior to men, simply because their rights are not identical. If her status had been identical to his, she would have only been a duplicate of him, which is not the case. The fact that Islam gives her equal - but not identical - rights shows that it takes her into consideration, recognizes her and recognizes her independent personality and role. In the Quran, Allah frequently addresses both men and women. In one passage, Allah reveals: “For Muslim men and women, for believing men and women, for pious men and women, for true men and women who are patient, for men and women who 'humiliating, for the men and women who give in. charity, for men and women who fast, for men and women who guarantee...... middle of paper ......el the status of women in the Muslim world today as " Islamic" is also far from the truth in describing the position of women in the West today as "totally liberated and equal". I hope that with this understanding in mind, Muslims and non-Muslims, men and women can begin a process of communication and dialogue to eliminate misconceptions. , suspicions and fears. As you can see, Muslim women today face many challenges, whether in the westernized world or in traditional societies, through internal and external dialogue, I am confident that we will find ways to remain faithful to Sharia law. and the Sunnah and contribute to today's world.
