    The three branches of the federal government are the legislative, judicial, and executive branches. According to the federalist newspapers, the legislative power is the strongest power since it promulgates the laws. Therefore, by halving legislative power by creating a Senate and a House of Representatives, the separation of powers becomes more equitable. Furthermore, the judiciary is considered the weakest of the three since it has "...no influence over sword or purse...can take no active resolution...neither FORCE nor WILL, but simply judgment; and must...depend on the aid of the executive...for...its judgments” (Hamilton, Federalist 78). This means that it has no monetary or military power and relies directly on the legislative and executive branches to follow their decisions, which ensures that the government does not have too much power individually. Therefore, since it is the weaker branch, the court has the power of judicial review, that is, the ability to decide whether the acts of the other branches are constitutional or not. not (Hamilton, Federalist 78).
