If I decided to move to Los Angeles, my cost of living would increase significantly because many things are much more expensive there. Food would cost 30% more, housing 160% more, transportation 30% more and health care 21% more. Housing would be the biggest factor, as housing in Los Angeles is 160% higher than in Houston, which would significantly increase my main expense! I would need to earn a salary of $200,147 to live in California as comfortably as I do in Houston, which I find rather absurd. Another city I would consider living in is New York, as it is home to many very large tech companies. However, moving to New York would be very expensive.
