Essay / My thoughts on the book: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
The main social problem covered in the book is the “mentally handicapped boy”. Christopher Boone, a 15-year-old boy, has a disability that poses certain challenges to him, such as the disabling environment in which he lives. This disabling environment includes a number of relationships with Christopher and his many unique demands and rites. For example, he only eats foods of certain colors. [p.83] Additionally, the conflicts in Christopher's family stem from the adult's frustration and the adolescent's lack of acceptance of differences. Above all, Christopher himself manages his disability perfectly through a set of strategic rites such as solving complex mathematical problems in his head. [p181] But his family flares up his autistic symptoms because of their own collective inability to cope. Children with autistic symptoms have difficulty interacting and communicating with others. Having a disability is certainly difficult, but it is also positive things that a human being can practice. Many people with disabilities have contributed to society. These include actors, actresses, celebrities, singers, world leaders and many other famous people. Of course, there are also millions of people in the world who may not be famous in the way society considers it, but who nonetheless live in battle and overcome their lives. This message is relevant to contemporary events since in most countries, mental disabilities still exist. It raises awareness about caring for a mentally disabled person. It also explains how to motivate that person to do whatever is natural. So, they should ignore all the problems and live a happy life. Based on my novel, I have a question to find out something important. Can each disabled person do certain activities very well? So, I agree with this important idea. Because many people face many disabilities but have achieved success in their life. In my novel, Christopher Boone, a 15-year-old mentally handicapped boy. But he is capable of trying something new and he may have explained it simply and very well. He has a good knowledge of science theory, universe and many more. [p.12] He is very intelligent in mathematics. That's why he got an A grade in math. Additionally, he wants to take A Level Physics with an A grade in the future. [pg. 266-267]Extensive reading involves learners reading texts for pleasure and to modify their general reading skills. It can be linked to intensive reading, that is, detailed reading with specific learning objectives and lessons. Reading is a difficult part for most people. Thus, learners have little chance of improving their reading speed and fluency. I made my novel through in-depth readings, which could be called individualized reading. I read my novel with pre-reading activities such as predicting the content or perhaps teaching a few key words. This is followed by comprehension questions, discussions with friends and language work. I learned a lot of things thanks to..100]
