  • Essay / Cosmology: Fundamental Forces - 576

The study of cosmology reveals a number of fundamental forces relevant to today's understanding of the universe. The universe is governed by four fundamental forces, or interactions. These four forces are the strong nuclear force, the weak nuclear force, the electromagnetic force and finally gravity. The strong nuclear force and the weak nuclear force operate at the atomic level, but we can observe gravity and electromagnetism every day. If these four fundamental forces of nature did not work together, our world would shatter and float aimlessly into unconsciousness. The most powerful of the four fundamental environmental forces is the strong nuclear force, also called the strong interaction. This force acts in contradiction with the repulsive forces of protons and binds neutrons and protons to lock them in atomic nuclei. This is how the nucleus of the atom is made. The influence is so strong that the tiny particle that carries the force is called a "gluon," which means "glue" in Latin. The strength of this effect is very demanding. Protons and electrons are sensitive...
