No other country can compare to the great nation of Brazil when it comes to the beautiful game of football. Since becoming a full member of FIFA, or Fédération Internationale de Football Association, in 1923, the country of Brazil has won numerous trophies as well as individual awards for its players ("Brazil"). Brazilian futebol, or soccer, has achieved international fame due to its history of groundbreaking teams, revolutionary players, and winning performances in competitive tournaments. Although not the most competitive or attractive league, the soccer league, Liga Do Brasil, still managed to produce teams that, in their golden age, became international powers. Santos Futebol Clube holds a joint record for the most league titles, eight titles, in the history of the Liga Do Brasil. It has also had great success in the Copa Do Brasil, a knockout tournament played not only by the top division but also by teams from lower divisions. Santos enjoyed its peak and success in the years 1961 to 1965. During these four years, Santos was widely considered the best team in the world. During this period, he won six of his eight national titles, five of his six national cups, was also crowned South American champion twice and international champion once ("Features of Santos FC"). This team featured a defense led by legends like Gilmar and Zito, but the most notable player in their starting lineup was Pele. It took Santos about another fifty years to win multiple titles in one season. During the 2010–11 season, Santos won a national title as well as a South American title ("Santos FC Features").
