He explains that the physical and visible grief is nothing compared to what he feels inside. I agree that Hamlet was mad, became a crazy fool. He wanted to pretend and appear crazy to explain why he acted the way he did, however, I believe he was no longer pretending. The Elizabethans believed that the human body was made up of 4 elements: phlegm, black bile, blood and yellow bile. In Hamlet, Shakespeare used the term melancholy, meaning too much black bile in the body. They thought it led to being irritable and having a strange imagination. Hamlet was in pain and those around him pushed him away and told him he had to get up. O' that this too solid flesh would melt, thaw and dissolve into dew (Acts 1.2 129-130). Hamlet here talks about wanting to die because of his father's death. So later, when Hamlet tells his friends that he is going to be thought crazy when in fact he was already suffering from melancholy at the beginning of the play. His own mother's behavior pushes him to turn against Ophélie, his lover. He denounces her and pushes her
