    Productive and Counterproductive Behaviors PaperStaff behaviors control the performance and capabilities of an organization. Most workers exhibit productive or counterproductive behaviors that impact workers, clients, and programs. The ability to control these behaviors is a necessary element of providing exceptional services. Many workers automatically engage in behaviors that are in the best interest of the organization. Although these behaviors are common, some employees do not follow orders and create havoc in those around them. Productive behavior allows workers to complete their daily tasks while counterproductive behavior creates costly problems. Good behavior contributes to the goals and objectives set by the organization (Britt & Jex, 2008). Productive Behavior Employees engage in productive behaviors by engaging in behavior that contributes positively to the goals and objectives of the organization (Britt & Jex, 2008, para 2). Organizations want employees to adapt behaviors that will positively improve the operation of the agency. This is done through proper training and effective skills to fulfill important roles. Long-term positive effects result from employees' productive behaviors. Employees who contribute to the organization help ease the financial burden and improve job performance. The goal of most organizations is to allow many employees to perform tasks that require little or no excessive supervision. New employees are trained to become autonomous in an organization through strong leadership and staff recognition. Being productive is linked to a person's performance and effectiveness at work. When an organization risks losing important stakeholders, it will fail in its mission to deliver quality value. Organizations strive to get all of their employees to engage in productive behaviors because this produces an efficient and productive work environment. In the absence of influential behaviors, employees tend to influence each other with poor performance, which is not beneficial to customers and programs.
