Genetically modified products cause enormous controversy in the United States. There have been many conflicts between different groups over whether or not genetically modified foods should be as widely sold or at least not be labeled. Many people, on both sides of the debate, have given in-depth insight into what genetically modified foods can do for/for humans. Those in favor of genetically modified foods say it allows farmers to have a less risky harvest, which can then lead to producing more food for a larger population. To some people, this seems like a positive benefit to genetically modified foods. Others, however, found that these facts simply didn't help them in the long run. Much of the population probably doesn't know this, but the majority of foods produced in the United States are actually genetically modified foods. The side effects people talk about are health problems that seem to occur when ingesting genetically modified foods. Another problem with genetically modified foods is that they are attributed to higher pesticide pollution. Finally, people do not like genetically modified foods because they find that they are less regulated by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) than other products on the market (The Issues). It is said that 70% of all food produced in the United States is actually genetically modified. Some people claim this has contributed to the increase in allergens and pollution over the past 10 years (William and David Schubert).
