    U.S. involvement in World War I and World War II have distinctly different causes, effects on American society, and consequences of U.S. involvement in global problems. During World War I, the United States maintained economic ties with Great Britain, while World War II was sparked by the spread of communism and fascism. World War II was actually caused by the aftermath of World War I. World War I began with tensions in Austria-Hungary and the enmity Germany had with parts of Europe. Although there have been wars and battles between other countries, two wars that involved the main warring countries and caused much damage and death were World War I and World War II. The First World War started in 1914 and lasted four years until 1918. The Second World War lasted longer than the first, it lasted six years from 1939 to 1945. The reasons for these wars are very different as well as combat methods. the war and its consequences. One similarity behind all its differences is the horrific outcome it left behind, the loss of life and massive destruction. What started World War I was the murder of Archduke Francis, heir to Austria and Hungary, on June 28, 1914, who was killed by a Serbian nationalist.
