  • Essay / How climate change is changing the way we live - 521

Climate change is still a controversial topic and some researchers have been discussing it forever. What is climate change? This means that climate change can be attributed to human activities or natural factors and will cause extreme weather events. During this century, with these human or natural factors, abnormal weather conditions always appear and their impacts threaten our lives. However, most people are unaware of this problem. Some potential impacts of climate change, how to affect our life and environment, are explained below. Unusual weather conditions have sounded the alarm about the threat of climate change. It is not a short duration but it is an ongoing problem that changes weather conditions abnormally everywhere. The temperature increases from year to year and its growth rate accelerates. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has affirmed that the average surface temperature of the planet has increased by about 0.6°C compared to the 20th century and predicts that the temperature will increase by 1 .9°C to 6.4°C this century. This assumes that extreme weather events also appear in Hong Kong. According to research from the Hong Kong Observatory, Hong Kong has experienced significant climate change over the past century. Nowadays, episodes of extreme rain and very hot days are very common while days of frost are rarer. This reveals that climate change is leading to abnormal and extreme weather events that we cannot easily adapt to. Climate change brings potential impacts on humans and ecosystems that threaten our daily lives. It affects us in various aspects, including water, ecosystems, food, coasts and health, etc. When it comes to food, some people may suggest that food production and plants can be risky...... middle of paper ......
