  • Essay / Changing with the Times: Prince, Puff Daddy and Snoop...

A few select artists, such as Prince, Puff Daddy and Snoop Doggy Dogg, have evolved due to life or environmental events. So much so that they feel the need to change their name. This need for change can be seen to be evident throughout the ever-changing American culture. Throughout his career, Sean Combs, also known as Puff Daddy, suffered from accusations, a poor home life, and the loss of loved ones. Shortly after his third birthday, his mother had another son, and then his father died. Sean Comb's mother wrote a story about his father's death in a car accident. However, fourteen-year-old Sean's curiosity got the better of him. While researching in the library, he discovered that his father was a hustle and died not in a car accident, but from a gunshot to the head on Central Park West. Sean Combs continues to say, “All the stories I heard about him, he was a good man and all that, and he was hustling to try to make ends meet. He wasn't known as a gangster. » However, growing up in Harlem, many influential artists surrounded Combs. These artists include LL Cool J, Run-DMC and The Beastie Boys. Before he even reached his teens, he had already built a bridge between music created on the streets and the high-quality studios of the major labels. He is also known for discovering big names such as Notorious BIG and Mary J. Blige. Once again, tragedy threatened to break Combs. On March 9, 1997, Sean Combs lost his best friend, rapper Biggie Smalls. However, that only fueled him, Combs bounced back with the energy of three people. He started opening restaurants, charities, clothing lines and always stayed one step ahead of the music business. Finally producing his own music, Diddy recorded his own chart-topping album in 1997, "No Way Out." I... middle of paper ... never seem to stay the same for very long. Sean Combs' life has been broadcast for the world to see, but people only care about tragedies for a while. He kept things fresh by changing professions, remaining unpredictable. His changing names eventually settled on P. Diddy. Snoop had his name changed thanks to an almost spiritual event. He spoke through his name and made a documentary through it, thus keeping his name alive. As if Prince's music didn't speak for itself, he also won gold for Best Name Change, using an album symbol that would later become his own nickname, causing confusion and changing to never the music industry. Most would dare say that almost everyone on the street would recognize the names P. Diddy, Prince and Snoop, and there's a reason for that: they beat the system and continue to live on as legends of American pop culture..
