Through Athena's assistance, the desired wisdom that Athena embodies is demonstrated. Some of the mortals Athena chooses to help are Odysseus, Athens, and Telemachus. Where Odysseus attempted to return to Ithaca after his long journey in the Odyssey and Telemachus on his journey to Kleos. Like most myths, people describe Athena as "gray-eyed" or "winking-eyed" and she appears before Telemachus to start him on a journey to search for his father and earn kleos like all Greek heroes. Without meeting Athena, Telemachus could be just another character and not a Greek hero. Through Odysseus, Athena was also the intellectual behind the Trojan horse of the Odyssey. The horse is an example of Athena's intelligence that saved Athens and led to victory in the war. During the war, Athena had the Greeks build the horse she would send to the Trojans. The Trojans believed that they were victorious just as they believed that the Greeks had given up the war and that the horse was their victory trophy. As the horse enters Troy, the Greeks besiege the city. Athena also helps Odysseus leave Calypso when he was abandoned on the island with Calypso.
