Essay / County Community College should offer on-campus services...
When I moved to California two weeks before school started, I had a hard time looking for a place to live around County Community College . This is because community colleges generally do not have on-campus housing for students. This made my life very difficult because I was new to the area and didn't know anyone. My dad helped me by calling one of his friends and asking if I could stay at their house temporarily until I could find a place to live that was near the school because I didn't have car at the time. . The day I finally found a place to live, school was about to start. When I went to check out the house I really didn't like the place because there was no kitchen allowed, the only time I could use the stove was to boil water. There were even curfews in effect because poor wooden boards alerted everyone whenever someone wandered in just to get a cup of water or an evening snack. Another limitation was that the landlady had ridiculous curfews for showers that I had to respect. The house was very dirty and unsanitary due to the lack of maintenance and care given to the building. I had no choice but to live there because it was the closest place to the school, within walking or cycling distance, that I could find because I didn't know how to take the bus in this new country. This is what leads me to believe that County Community College should see if it is possible to build an on-campus student housing center, as it is capable of helping a wide variety of students from diverse manners. County Community is a college known for its successful transfer rates. An article on CNN Money discussed County Community's good transfer rates, "County Community s...... middle of paper...... benefits that can affect current and future students." However, the county community may choose to ignore certain obstacles due to the great convenience and benefits it can bring to staff and students. The county community should not ignore this great opportunity that can change the lives of staff and students, but they should think more deeply about it.
