Identifying yourself and recognizing who you are may be the biggest obstacle an individual can face. This essay will determine my strengths, weaknesses and development plans with appropriate research findings. According to the HEXACO Personality Inventory, my greatest strength lies in extroversion. In the survey, I was ranked 4.31 out of 5. Extroversion is when an individual turns their attention outward and focuses on the object. Simply put, extroversion is the quality of being outgoing and enjoying the presence of people rather than being alone. Additionally, the HEXACO Personality Inventory indicates that individuals who score high in extraversion have a more positive perception of themselves. They are confident individuals who are not afraid to lead others and address large groups of people. Some of their characteristics include enjoying social interactions and gatherings in a positive atmosphere by being enthusiastic and energetic. It also highlights my personality in many ways. This was evident in my first year of college as I faced many obstacles, such as being removed from the co-op program. Both of these subdivisions are related to effective job performance, but affiliation effects have a weaker correlation between effective job performance and extraversion (Minbashian et al., 2009). More specifically, in the study carried out by Minbashian et al. (2009), there is evidence that scores on an agency measure are very positively related to high supervisor ratings of effective performance. Additionally, extraversion behaviors exhibit higher trait motivation, which is very important for managers. There is also evidence that assertive individuals are more effective leaders than less assertive leaders (Minbashian et al., 2009). This research shows that in my future career as a marketing manager, I would be able to build positive relationships with others and be an effective leader to my subordinates. Being in the marketing field forces us to face many situations where communication and trust are the keys to success. By being extroverted, Ican comfortably adapt to this role and I don't have to force myself to act a certain way to fit into the position. An individual may have many strengths, but learning from their weaknesses and making them a strength motivates them to do better. One of my biggest weaknesses is agreeableness. According to the HEXACO Personality Inventory, my Agreeableness score is low at 3.56 out of 5. Under the Agreeableness section, there are subsections that include Agreeableness with a score of 2.5. In a study carried out by Purdioux (2015), he determines the facets of agreeableness which include tenderness, modesty, altruism, etc. Agreeableness is defined as being lenient and forgiving. As I lack agreeableness, I am described as very stubborn, angry and critical. In my everyday life, I am very stubborn when I feel like I am right, which leads to many altercations between my mother and me. We always argue about things that are viewed differently by both of us and it makes me angry. There are many times I held grudges against my friends and the longest lasted a year. This weakness has been the undoing of many life decisions I have made and I hope to make improvements. Weaknesses not only have an effect on our personal life but also have a great impact on our career. In a study done by Witt, Burke, Barrick, Mount, and Michael (2002), they attempt to prove the relationship between agreeableness and job performance. . In a sample survey of various employees, results showed that people with low agreeableness were rated lower on job performance than people with high levels of agreeableness (Witt et al., 2002). Additionally, agreeableness is more important in situations where collaboration is a primary aspect of the job. According to the survey, the results conclude that jobs that require high interpersonal interactions require individuals who exhibit characteristics such as altruism and flexibility (Witt et al, 2002). Furthermore, it shows that high agreeable individuals can easily resolve conflicts, cooperate with colleagues, and have mutual understanding with others. This means I need to improve on this weakness to become a successful marketer. To be able to improve my weakness, I need to create a development plan. My plan is to take relaxation, mindfulness or yoga classes for a year to open my mind to other opinions, improve my engagement and control my anger. Additionally, a behavioral example to improve agreeableness is to listen. When discussing with others, I must first listen to others' opinions on a topic. This would help me understand other people's perspectives on the subject. So, by sharing my point of view, there would be no conflicts and an agreement would occur. By not listening to others, I create unnecessary arguments that would not have happened if both sides had been clearly expressed. Additionally, I need to understand that by improving agreeableness, it will also improve relationships. To do this, I need to have a softer tone when speaking to others. By lowering your voice and changing your tone, it will prevent arguments from happening and the other person will not feel intimidated. My plan is a SMART goal. The goal is specific because I will take yoga classes or do mindfulness exercises. This is measurable because to measure my final results, I will take the HEXACO survey again to see if there are any improvements in my agreeableness scores.
